CONCERT - A CELEBRATION OF EDWARD BUNTING (1773 - 1843)
AWCD has secured six tickets for a sold-out performance that will mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of one of the towering figures of Irish music, Edward Bunting (1773-1843). The concert will take place in the beautiful setting of the Archive Reading Room of the historic Dublin City Library (Pearse Street).
The performers are: Bryan Murray (Edward Bunting), Teresa O'Donnell (harp), Mary Louise O'Donnell (voice), Denice Doyle (violin), Jane Hughes (cello) and Pat Fitzpatrick (uilleann pipes, whistle).
Bunting is best known for notating and transcribing the music of the harpers at the Belfast Harp Festival in 1792 and publishing three seminal collections of Irish music (1797, 1809 and 1840) based on that historic gathering. This concert celebrates his music, life and legacy. Music and songs from Bunting’s three collections of Irish music are interwoven with extracts from his personal letters.
