 Hello, hikers!

Our hike this week will take us from Shankill to the beautiful valley overlook of the Scalp and the 360 degree view from Carrickgollogan.  We will stop briefly on the way to see the historic Lead Mine chimney.  Depending on whether we begin at the Shankill DART station (where you can park for 3 euro) or Brady’s pub in Shankill village (where parking is also 3 euro, coins only), the walk will take 4 to 4.5 hours.

We will meet at Shankill DART station at 9:10 for a prompt 9:15 start.  Or if you’re driving and may need to leave promptly (for example, for a school pick-up) you can meet us in front of Brady’s pub in Shankill village at 9:30.

The hike is 14 km (8.7 miles) long and 350 meters (1150 feet) elevation gain.  We will take it at a social pace.

The trail can be a bit rough underfoot; please wear hiking shoes or boots with good tread.  Rain is not forecast, but we are in Ireland: bring raingear.  Please bring a snack and a liter of water (in a reusable container, if at all possible!)

For those that have the time, we can have lunch after the hike at Brady’s in Shankill.  If your schedule requires you to leave immediately after the hike, please bring a packed lunch.  If the weather permits, we will take a lunch/snack break at The Scalp.

We will set up a WhatsApp group for the hike so we can communicate before and share photos after the hike.

Please sign up via Wild Apricot if you plan to join us for this beautiful walk.

We hope you can join us!
