Guided Tour
Please join us for a one-hour guided tour of First Fragments: Biblical Papyrus from Roman Egypt at the magnificent Chester Beatty Library. This temporary exhibit features “the internationally important collection of manuscripts known as the Chester Beatty Biblical Papyri. Dating from the 2nd to 4th century AD, these ancient pages reveal a world of book production and early Christian scholarship in Roman Egypt.” See the CBL website for more information about the exhibit and the education programs associated with it. First Fragments, which runs through 3 September 2023, offers a unique opportunity to both see and learn about these rare ancient artefacts. This guided tour is open to AWCD members and guests.
Lunch Afterwards (Optional)
Those that would like to can join us afterwards for lunch at the lovely Silk Road café, at your own expense. This moderately priced carvery-style cafe features a tantalizing tapestry of middle-eastern dishes (and desserts!) that reflects the gallery itself. Tables will be reserved for us, so if you register for lunch you are guaranteed a seat at this casual but elegant little gem.
The Chester Beatty Library is surely one of Dublin’s jewels, and we are really privileged to have it on our doorstep. We would love for you to join us and thereby add a bit of spice to the sombre greys and browns of the Dublin winter.
