About the gallery:

The Hugh Lane Gallery is located in Charlemont House, on the north side of Parnell Square at the top of O’Connell Street in Dublin 1.

The gallery’s original collection of modern art was presented by Sir Hugh Lane in 1908 and has, over the last century been enhanced by notable bequests, gifts and acquisitions including Francis Bacon’s Studio and Archive and Sean Scully’s gift of paintings.

Charlemont House was designed by William Chambers in 1763 for James Caulfeild The first Earl of Charlemont and was refurbished as a public art gallery in 1933.
