AWCD Hike for 7 Jan 2022 – Vale of Clara circular
Hello hikers! Happy New Year!
Our first AWCD hike/hillwalk of 2022 will take place this Friday, 7 January (please note the change of day). Our walk will take us on a lovely forest trail through the native trees of the Vale of Clara Nature Reserve and along the lovely Avonmore River. (We will not be climbing a mountain on this walk!) The trail is about 10.25 KM long and should take around 3 hours. Please bring a lunch; we will take a break for a trailside lunch.
Date: Friday, 7 January 2022
Hike: Circular walk through the Vale of Clara. This is a lowland walk through a native forest and along a lovely river.
Meeting place: Vale of Clara entrance (52.96885, -6.25866)
Meeting time: 9:50 for a 10:00 start
Hike time: 3 hours
Please bring: 1 liter water, lunch and snack, rain gear, hat and gloves
I have been asked by the AWCD to point out that walkers should be aware that they are responsible for their own safety and that they are NOT covered by the AWCD for Personal Accident Insurance. To hike with the Hillwalking group you must be a member of Mountaineering Ireland which provides us with insurance cover. If you have not walked with us before, you are allowed one guest walk before joining Mountaineering Ireland. You will need to sign a Guest Waiver Form. I will bring these on the walk.
Please sign up through Wild Apricot by the end of Thursday (6 January) if you plan to join us on the hike. We will be setting up carpools to get to the trailhead; Please let me know if you can drive, and the nearest DART/LUAS station at which you can collect people. Carpool riders will be asked to pay 10 euro to their driver to help defray the cost of petrol.
