Glendalough - Spinc Trail
Hello hikers!
This week’s AWCD hike/hillwalk will take us to the beautiful valley of Glendalough, with its lakes and monastic ruins. We will be walking The Spinc Circular.
We will meet in the lower carpark near the Visitor Center. There is a 4 euro fee to park. Our route will take us past the monastic ruins and up the south side of the lower lake via the Wicklow Way. We’ll then turn left and ascend past Poulanass Falls and up the switchbacks to The Spinc. The view of the Glenealo Valley is fabulous! We’ll walk the sleepers of the Spinc, then turn left and descend through the woods and clearcuts back past Poulanass Falls and retrace our steps back to the carpark. If time permits, we will stop to wander the ruins of the former monastery.

Hike: Glendalough Visitor Centre carpark – Wicklow Way – Poulanass Waterfall – The Spinc – forest trails – back past waterfall, lower lake, and ruins to carpark.
Meeting place: Glendalough Visitor Centre carpark
Meeting time: 9:20 for a 9:30 start
Hike time: 4.5 hours
Please bring: 1 liter water, lunch and snack, rain gear, hat and gloves, walking sticks
I have been asked by the AWCD to point out that walkers should be aware that they are responsible for their own safety and that they are NOT covered by the AWCD for Personal Accident Insurance. To hike with the Hillwalking group you must be a member of Mountaineering Ireland which provides us with insurance cover. If you have not walked with us before, you are allowed one guest walk before joining Mountaineering Ireland. You will need to sign a Guest Waiver Form. I will bring these on the walk.
Please sign up through Wild Apricot by the end of Wednesday (20 October) if you plan to join us on the hike. We will be setting up carpools to get to the trailhead; Please let me know if you can drive, and the nearest DART/LUAS station at which you can collect people. Carpool riders will be asked to pay 10 euro to their driver to help defray the cost of petrol.
